On Saturday, June 9th, Crestwood Country Club celebrated it's 60th Anniversary with a concert, buffet dinner and fireworks. Crestwood was incorporated in April of 1958. Ten couples in Pittsburg began discussing their vision for a social country club and golf course several years before this. Ed Phelps was encouraged by the other couples to sit at the head of the table and get things going. George Nettels, one of the Founders and a President in 1960 is still a member today. Although Mr. Nettels was not in attendence, Jean Barber was acknowledged as the next longest standing member. Assisted by her son Martin, she graciously cut the birthday cake. Jean joined around 1960 or 1961. She has been golfing until last season when playing "a few holes" wasn't enough and she retired her clubs. Jean has been considered the "matriarch" of the Crestwood Women's Association and was the instigator of the existing ladies evening league the year she was President.
Before the concert, a lovely buffet was served with carved Prime Strip Loin and "Made To Order" pasta station.
Everyone adjourned to the clubhouse decks for a wonderful "Concert on the Green" near our practice green. Under the direction of Todd Hastings, the "Crossroads Jazz Orchestra (17 piece) played until after 9:00 pm.
The celebration culminated with a fireworks display across the lake as it has historically been done for the 1st, 25th and 50th year events.
